Athena the Queen

Sad thing is I'm not even half way done with Kingdom Hears 1.5 Remix...at least I 100% beat Super Mario 3D world, but Animal Crossing New Leaf is ongoing and I've not even touched Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds...then the Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster is coming in march...ah heck XD Ah well art must continue as well =3

I've got just the inspiration for it too, mine and Gem's RP...and that will NEVER cease XP

Anyway here's Athena again.  I seem to do her around the same time every year XD I did the Weaver Trio picture last year and my first ever picture of her in January of 2012 XD  I have to say I'm quite proud of this one especially for the relatively short time it took me.  I need to start timing myself but can't have taken more than a couple of hours a day from sketch to posting it.  I'm getting faster and happier with my work but I've still got a long way to go.

The most recent story arc that spawned this was Kephalos, the Creator and the father of Athena's children, being taken and imprisoned by an ancient machine, having his power stolen by a mere mortal.  This leaves Athena, who is pregnant with twin boys, Athenos and Kephenas, as the Queen, left to watch over the Guardians, Kephalos's realm, including the dying trees that are tied to his power, and basically all of the world, while organizing a way to get him back.  She is tired and frequently worn out, but she remains strong, a pillar of strength, and quite the admirable queen.  Still, inside she worries for her husband, still depending on him and his love.  This is the more concerned side, the somewhat exhausted one, ready for rest and resolution but not taking it; apt to sadness but pushing it aside with bravery; scared but strong, showing her nobility, beauty, and grace.  This is Athena the Queen.

I toyed with the idea of adding black parts to make it look like eyes were opening, like it was Kephalos opening his eyes and seeing her there, but I loved the look of the picture too much to do that XD  Again, you know me with sunsets and stars at the top, it's my favorite background to use, plus I love using the sunlight coming in from the back and sides...mostly from the sides this time as they live above everything.  I tried adding some shine to her bangs, and I used the same method for the eye shine that I did in the picture of UnDark and Ophelia last month.

My favorite part is the necklace.  I tried something different with the gems and I just LOVE how they came out.  All in all I'm pretty happy with the picture.   Hope you enjoy it! ^^
